Position Overview

We are looking for an Assistant Human Resources Business Partner, with 3+ years of experience to perform both tactical and strategic functions. Under the direction of an HR Director, you will have the opportunity to learn our business, while using your HR skills to make decisions, and positively impact our workforce.

You will participate in an HR developmental program, that prepares you for a leadership role, transforming you into a business savvy, construction/engineering Human Resources Business Partner. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure HR execution and performance within your assigned business unit and be a liaison with HR Shared Services to ensure their support exceeds internal client needs, while leading various projects and initiatives. You will be expected to support our leaders to help develop and retain a talented and engaged workforce.

District Overview

HR Operations is an integral partner and service provider at Kiewit. In recent years, we have gone from decentralized HR groups to a unified, shared service team, with various HR Centers of Excellence. Our vision is to be a best-in-class international HR organization.

Location

This position is based out of our Fairfield California office. This is not a remote opportunity and does require periodic travel (@20%) to our other business locations.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development of HR related strategies and ensure implementation and execution.
  • Maintain knowledge of progressive HR practices, trends and data points to drive enhancements.
  • Serve as a change agent by influencing key stakeholders in support of organizational effectiveness.
  • Support the development of succession plans and skills gap analysis, ensuring that they are consistently reviewed and that effective actions are in place.
  • Ensure coaching, feedback and performance systems are in place to maximize workforce productivity.
  • Lead implementation of programs to drive development, employee engagement and retention.
  • Serve as advisor to leadership teams by providing insights, consultation and support.
  • Act as a liaison with HR Shared Services to ensure the delivery of support to exceed internal client needs.
  • Provide feedback to influence the continuous improvement of HR services and processes.
  • Consult with managers on effective staff assignments and strategy.
  • Support succession planning process by providing sound insight, support and Identify additional learning and development trends based on future workforce needs.
  • Serve as liaison for high-risk terminations or separations of employees.
  • Utilize dashboards, reports and data to help drive business decisions and monitor workforce productivity, retention and engagement trends
  • Support implementation of standard communications, processes and reporting for HR annual cycle activities
  • Drive execution of employee performance programs and expectations to maximize workforce productivity.
  • Support the execution of performance improvement plans and provide consultation as necessary.
  • Support the execution of leadership development programs and expectations to maximize workforce productivity
  • Provide insight and analysis to annual wage and bonus planning process.
  • Provide HR support for District Management Teams (DOR, HR Business Plans, Mid-Year Reviews, etc.).
  • Maintain employee visibility through Job visits and employee interaction to Kiewit offices and project sites as necessary. Qualifications
    • Bachelors' Degree in Human Resources or related field is required with 3+ years of HR experience, with a working knowledge of multiple human resources areas like workforce planning and talent development, and you are ready to take that next step in term of level of responsibility and development.
    • Experience supporting engineering, industrial or construction organizations, highly preferred. Experience in any of our markets (Transportation, Mining, Water/Wastewater, Power, Oil/Gas/Petrochemical, Vertical Building Construction, or Industrial Facilities) a huge plus
    • Must have previous experience performing similar duties as outlined above, with the ability to strike a balance between tactical support, strategic HR program execution and process innovation. Experience using data to drive business decisions. Extensive experience using MS Office Suite, including some advanced skills in Excel (V-Lookup, Pivot Tables, Formulas).
    • Interest and ability to relocate for future growth opportunities in HR for career trajectory over time.
    • Ability to travel overnight throughout North America up to 20% of the time.
    • Ability to communicate and influence individuals and groups to gain buy-in and acceptance of new ideas and approaches.
    • Proven ability to take initiative and build strong and productive personal relationships, strong business acumen, analytical skills, and high attention to detail, agile with ability to handle multiple priorities.

      Base Compensation: $73,000 - $109,000
      (Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
