Sacred Heart is home to the award-winning, NPR-affiliated radio station, WSHU, a Division I athletics program and an impressive performing arts program that includes choir, band, dance and theatre.The Director of Marketing and Development will work closely with the Executive Director, the Board of Directors and staff with a keen focus to advance the organization among key constituents, especially funders and potential funders, meet the annual fundraising goal, and identify, cultivate, solicit and steward a diverse donor pipeline to meet future goals.Additionally, the Director of Marketing and Development will work to identify, cultivate, steward, and solicit donors by accurately marketing the mission, vision and initiatives of Horizons at Sacred Heart University.Responsibilities Includes:

  • Develop new and lead current fundraising efforts by creating and implementing a development strategy to maximize the organization's raised revenue
  • Pursue growth opportunities that leverage the growth of our donor base and increases the return on investment on current fundraising activities
  • Process all checks and receivables in conjunction with Development office at SHU and the HSHU Operations Manager
  • Work with SHU to conduct prospect research; and use the research to develop and execute individual cultivation, solicitation and stewardship plans
  • Maintain and grow a robust and up-to-date donor database:
    • Produce accurate and timely reports to update the Executive Director and the Board of Directors on fundraising outcomes including amount raised from various sources, as well as contributions in the pipeline, and board meeting reports
    • Collaborate regularly with Sacred Heart University's development team to reconcile contributions, track acknowledgment, and identify and address discrepancies
    • Review and support a list management protocol
    • Oversee drafting and distribution of all donor/prospect related communications including newsletters, acknowledgement letters and appeals
    • Collaborate with the Executive Director and Board of Directors on major donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship
    • Liaise with the Board of Directors, specifically the Development Committee, to develop and achieve fundraising initiatives and goals
    • Assist in the development and execution of an events strategy, including, but not limited to, the annual golf outing and Gala/Luncheon. Recommend and oversee the development of additional event opportunities as time and budget permit.
    • Develop all messaging and marketing collateral materials, including social media posts, that accurately reflect the mission of Horizons at SHU
      • Identify and manage any graphics consultants
      • Develop and implement a strategy to grow HSHU's recognition within the SHU community and Fairfield County including families/potential applicants, supporters/funders, and other non-profits that support Bridgeport
      • Lead and implement the organization's fundraising and donor cultivation events
      • Represent Horizons at SHU to the donors and donor prospects and other stakeholders, as appropriate
      • Other duties assigned as related to fundraising, communications and the advancement of the organization

        • Master's degree preferred, but not required
        • Extensive experience in non-profit development and advancement experience required
        • Strong organizational and communication skills
        • Ability to work effectively in a team
        • Leadership experience preferred
        • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends, as needed
        • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite required
        • Proficiency with CRM (Raiser's Edge) preferred, but not required
        • Proficiency with Social Media required
