ABOUT GLENMARY HOME MISSIONERS
Glenmary Home Missioners (Glenmary), founded in 1939, is a Catholic society of priests and brothers who, along with coworkers, are dedicated to establishing a Catholic presence in rural areas and small towns of the United States where the Catholic Church is not yet effectively present. Inspired by the vision of society founder Father William Howard Bishop, Glenmary missioners and lay coworkers strive to:

  • Serve the spiritual and material needs of those living in some of the most impoverished counties in the south and Appalachia;
  • Proclaim and witness to the Good News of Jesus Christ and the power of God's love, mercy and justice. SUMMARY
    The director of development plays a key role in the advancement of Glenmary's important mission and purpose. He/she will inspire and lead a department of eight with six direct reports. This position is primarily administrative, however the director of development will maintain a small portfolio of major gift donors in the greater Cincinnati region. She/he will be responsible for the planning, coordination, direction, and management of Glenmary's development department and is directly responsible for the implementation and execution of activities associated all fundraising activities including the major gifts program, annual fund, planned-giving, and any other activities that advance the work of Glenmary. ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Provides leadership, education and management direction for all staff assigned to the department.
    • Maintains and fosters relationships with a small portfolio of major gift donors/prospects in the greater Cincinnati region to help determine the best way to secure and/or enhance their giving capacity.
    • Partners with the donor engagement manager to work with a select group of donors.
    • Designs, directs, administers and evaluates a comprehensive development program which will achieve Glenmary goals that includes but is not limited to: direct mail appeals, planned giving programs, major gifts program, mission education and church appeals and grant writing.
    • Manages fundraising resources, including the development of a strategic marketing program consistent with Glenmary's mission policies, procedures, and practices.
    • Receives, analyzes, and reports on data identifying fundraising successes and/or shortcomings to revise, enhance and/or improve existing programs and campaigns.
    • Develops the overall short and long-range plans for annual giving, sets program goals and objectives in line with the development plan for the organization and manages the budget for all development activities (including phoning donors and direct mail).
    • Works with the annual fund manager to manage the acquisition of new donors including selecting which address lists to rent.
    • Works with the manager of communications to create a communication plan that positions and promotes the annual giving program with its various constituencies (this would include annual report, cultivate, and President's Friends newsletters). Cooperates with the manager of communications in moving communication products through the various phases of in-house and out-of-house production.
    • Works in concert with other development staff to plan and implement special events.
    • Oversees the preparation of appeal mailings and acquisition mailings and/or acknowledgement packages.
    • Maintains contact with other members of management and/or external sources (donors, etc.) as appropriate to achieve departmental goals.
    • Schedules and conducts meetings with departmental employees to discuss and plan fundraising activities and establish goals.
    • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the immediate supervisor. POSITION REQUIREMENTS/EXPERIENCE
      • Supervision: Team/department of eight; direct supervision of six.
      • Education/Experience: Minimum of bachelor's degree in business or related field required (Master's degree preferred). Six to eight years of related experience (nonprofit and/or religious preferred).
      • Communication Skills/Requirements: Excellent skills required. Able to communicate with fellow employees at all levels, Glenmarians, and "external customers" on matters having a direct affect upon the work assigned. Able to communicate verbally in person, electronically, via telephone or in writing with all previously identified sources.
      • Mathematical Ability: Able to add, subtract, multiply and/or divide in whatever fashion is required by the position held. May need to deal/work with fractions, percentages and/or decimals as required by the position held.
      • Reasoning Ability: Able to make decisions based upon the level of knowledge and/or experience attained. Able to make recommendations as to a course of action to take based upon assessment of facts, trends and/or experience in field.
      • Licenses/Certifications: Maintain appropriate memberships/certifications/affiliations in local, regional and/or national organizations necessary for the position. Valid driver's license.
      • Physical Demands: Generally non-demanding. Will have to travel up and/or down stairs on occasion to perform assigned duties. Will require walking, standing, and sitting, and the use of hands and arms to occasionally lift and reach.
      • Work Environment: Generally, of an office nature. Temperature will generally remain the same with low noise level and limited exposure to any disagreeable conditions. Will be required to travel outside of normal work location via POV and/or public transportation.
